FAQ

Content & Schema

Questions about editing content, schema changes, and managing pages and languages in the CMS.

What changes can I make in the CMS myself?

Content such as texts, images, and links can be edited freely at any time. Changes to the schema (e.g. removing fields or changing from "optional" to "required") must be coordinated with the development team, as they may require code adjustments.

Can I customize content modules?

The structure of existing content modules must not be changed, as this requires adjustments to the data query (GraphQL query). Adding new fields to a module is generally possible — however, they will only be displayed once the code has been updated accordingly.

Can I add or remove a language myself?

No. Adding or removing languages affects the entire project and should always be done by the development team.

What happens when I set a page to "Unpublish"?

The page will no longer be publicly visible after the next deployment. Due to caching, it may take a moment for the change to become visible.

Is my content backed up automatically?

Yes. A backup of the CMS data is automatically created every night. Typically, the last 2 days are retained. If needed, an older state can be restored — please contact the development team for this.

Which pages must not be deleted?

The pages Home, 404, and Module Overview should not be deleted. "Home" is the start page, "404" is displayed for pages not found, and "Module Overview" serves as an overview of all available modules for testing purposes.

Preview & Draft Mode

Questions about the preview feature, draft mode, and the side-by-side view in the CMS.

Why does the preview link say "draft-mode disable"?

This is correct. The link for a published page intentionally disables draft mode so that the published version is displayed. When previewing a draft, it will say "enable" instead.

How can I manually activate draft mode?

There are two ways: Via the Debug Panel, or by replacing the word "disable" with "enable" in the preview URL.

The preview in side-by-side mode is not updating. What should I do?

From dastro version 1.1.21 onwards, the preview should update automatically — both in side-by-side mode and in a separate browser window. If this is not working, please check the dastro version.

SEO & Indexing

Questions about search engine indexing and its configuration across different environments.

Do I need to manually disable indexing during development?

No. Search engine indexing is disabled by default on development and preview environments. It is only activated for the production environment at go-live.

Tips & Tricks

Useful tips and shortcuts for everyday work with the CMS.

Is there a quick search in the CMS?

Yes — with Cmd + P (Mac) or Ctrl + P (Windows), a quick search opens in DatoCMS to quickly navigate to content, models, or settings.

Where can I see which version of Astro / dastro is being used?

From dastro version 1.1.20 onwards, the version number is output in the browser console. The console can be opened in the browser via the developer tools (e.g. with F12).
